End of an Era

End of an Era
Written by Francis Duffy (Writer and Lecturer)

An era has come to end, as Tony Knox, Curator of the Egg Space Gallery in Liverpool, has now changed over to concentrate on his art, as a practitioner.

He has an upcoming exhibition in London and other international events, which he is currently developing new work towards.

After nearly five years as Curator of the Egg Space Gallery, formerly known as the Acorn, he has provided more than 400 artists with opportunities through more than 40 exhibitions, both within the gallery space and also external initiatives in independent spaces through out the city. Some of which have been part of the Liverpool Biennial and the Liverpool European City of Culture 2008.

What started as a retrospective exhibition in memory of his friend Richie Fisher, who sadly committed suicide, compelled him to assist other artists, both regional, national and international. Through curatorial mediation he enabled others to realise opportunities and provide a platform to exhibit. He has played an active role in the research and development of art and culture in the city.

When Tony became Curator of the Egg Space, outlets for exhibiting were extremely limited and since then other galleries and art institutions have emerged offering more scope to the artist.

An activist in the development of arts and culture and advocate to others in these fields. He now enters the arts as practitioner again, in which he had already secured recognition in the international art market before his curatorial quest.
