'Poached' is an exhibition of fine art produced by a group of art
graduates who are based at St. Helens College, and is being held
at the Egg Gallery in Liverpool, Newington street (off bold street)
Section about drawlab
The 12 talented artists have been successfully participating in
the European Social Funded 'Drawlab' project, which offers both
financial support and the opportunity to continue their work, to
a selection of graduate art students from across Merseyside.
In addition to this the project also aids them in the transition
from student to professional artist and raises the profile of both
the individual and art in the community, an important step for any
art graduate
Poached Tony Knox stated
"The plan is for the group to tour the work working towards
Liverpool biennial 2002”
with Poached because of the diversities of the artists works, I
realised that there needed to be something to bring all 11 artists
work together, so all the artist’s logo’s were sink
screen printed on to wallpaper border & repeated throughout
the space about to inch’s above the floor giving a sence of
group unity”
Tony Knox currently work at the egg is “Elvis has left the
Building” depicting an American wrestler the Honky Tonk man
while on tour in the north west, are silk-screened onto wallpaper
the once famous Elvis themed Impersonator seems out of time, showing
the pantomime of wrestling also quirky images of the wrestlers are
placed throughout the space on windows, make the work surtal it
changes the feel of the space at different times of the day you
don’t realise that a face of a wrestler with red contact lens
has been stareing at you the whole time you been drinking your tea
etc.
“It’s important to make art work transform a gallery
space, by making art fun it becomes less initiating to the viewer
tony Knox and Suesan Millburn , gail downy are all currently showning
at the sefton open.
John O’Neil
“Bank holiday weekend” is scene of the pub culture depicting
mob type mentality where the pubs are lose there identity it’s
a typical drunken Saturday free for all “
